ASR works with governments and other organizations to improve fisheries management practices. ASR's numerical dispersal model can be used to model fish larval and adult movement and behavior. Existing data on regeneration rates and catch rates are supplemented with fieldwork to determine carrying capacity. This information is critical when implementing fisheries catch policies to ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries practices.

On a broader level, ASR uses the data and analysis from understanding of carrying capacity and fish movements to help governments implement sustainable fishing regulations. ASR combines our dispersal modeling, fisheries movement modeling, and a deep knowledge of marine ecology to understand the effects of pollutants on fishery health. For example, we can track the movement of pollutants from an oil spill, compare its location with that of local fisheries, and assess the impact of the oil on the health of the fish populations.

ASR works with aquaculture developers to create solutions that are economically and environmentally sustainable. When improperly located or inadequately understood, aquaculture can damage naturally occurring species and destroy important coastal and marine habitat (e.g. mangroves). ASR uses our modeling technology, surveying expertise, and experience assessing the ecological requirements for aquaculture to optimize the locations of these developments. We apply these same scientific principles to assess optimal types of species to be raised. ASR also monitors water quality and develops numerical models of pollutants flowing from aquaculture sites to determine their environmental impacts.
